How the project works
The project involves pupils working through the five ‘Modules’ of the ‘Toolkit’ together with another young person from their school (a Peer Mentor). This will take around five – seven sessions of about half an hour for each session.
Each Module looks at 5 different areas in the pupil’s life – motivation and aspirations, relationships, stress, anger and learning styles.
The Toolkit is made up of questionnaires which can be scored by the pupils themselves – this helps pupils to understand more about themselves and what makes them tick. The questionnaires also lead the pupils to engaging support and advice in the form of multi-media content (short films and animations).
The information sheets within the Toolkit are the pupil’s to keep and to look back on in the future; they might find them useful to read again later on. There are also handouts and links to further resources at the end of every module. The Peer Mentor can help the pupil to download them and have a think about which tools are relevant for them.
The sessions are designed to be enjoyable with a lot for the pupil to gain from. The idea is that this project can have impact on the pupils for their whole lives.
Teachers will have access to the pupils’ overall scores but not their individual answers – due to confidentiality. That way teachers can still monitor how the pupil is doing.
Teachers will need very little time to set this programme up. They will need to match a young person with a peer mentor, then arrange session for the peer mentor and the pupil to get together to complete each module.
There should be around 5-8 sessions, depending on time available. A teacher will need to be around during the sessions. Full training advice is available to schools who register with us.
